How Does It Work?
There is no resistance wires in electrically heated glass. The function is based on features of regular low-e(heat radiation) glass whose metal oxide coating is semi-conductive and heats-up like a conventional resistor when electric current is fed into it. The electrodes carrying the current the current are positioned in the edge of the sealed unit, thus concealing them from sight.

Can a building be heated only with heated glass?
Yes - if the glass surface area of a room is large enough. All installations are calculated by specialist engineers on a project by project basis. The flexibility of the product means heated mirrors or glass radiators can be used in areas with small glazing areas, such as for instance bathrooms.

Can heated glass be used in specialist installations?
Yes Heated Glass can be combined with virtually any glass in the Saint Goban product library giving scope for its use in almost any glazing application.

What is the operating voltage of the electric glass element?
The Electric glass elements are aspired to group so several panes can be connected in a series (from mains voltage 230/24 V). If an adequate series cannot be created or there is a particular bespoke requirement, a transformer is specified.

U-Values
All our heated glass is manufactured to the highest industry standards. Double glazed units achieve a 1.1 U-value; Triple glazed units can achieve a 0.65 U-value, surpassing requirements for both UK and EU building standards. Further details available upon request.

How much power is required and what is a suitable surface temperature?
Typically in smaller homes surface temperatures of 23 - 28°C can be reached with 150 W/m² or power. Even 100 W/m² would be adequate to eliminate draughts and cold spots. If they required power input is greater, sensors limit surface temperatures.
