Here at Duration Windows we have the ability to weld the aluminium sections of our aluminium windows and doors. The sections of all our aluminium windows are assembled using a mechanical join (mitre). We are able to weld the front face of each of the mitred corners of our Windows and Doors. This gives you the same clean finish that you get with traditional metal windows.Welded corners are optional and at an additional cost. Hinges may also optionally be welded, again at additional cost.

Steel Window companies are constantly making claims and statements with the aim of putting down more cost effective alternatives to steel windows. This is one such statement from one of our competitors:
'There are a lot of window companies that claim that their window looks like a steel window. Generally this is not the case. The characteristics of welded on hinges and classic ironmongery including peg stays is difficult to replicate.'
How incorrect is this statement? Read on and decide for yourself.
We prep the aluminium for welding by grinding down the meeting edge of the two sections of mill-finished aluminium at an angle. This is done in order to create a V-shaped grove at the meeting edge of the aluminium sections. An aluminium rod is melted into the seem and used as a metal filler for the weld. You can choose to either keep the raw weld for a more rustic finish or you can have the weld ground smooth for a clean finish. (see example below)

With our Heritage window range, production techniques and 25 years of experience it is possible to create almost exact replica's of steel windows in aluminium!!! Our Aluminium Heritage Windows are almost as slim, more energy efficient, more secure (when using our patented locking) and longer lasting than traditional steel windows. This is why many of the steel window companies are now offering aluminium alternatives to their own steel windows.
